Youth are involved in global climate summits every single year. This meeting of governments is called the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).  And each year, delegations from each member country debate the details and merits of a potentially world-changing agreement. Nobody knows what will happen, but one thing’s for sure: Young climate activists will be there en force.

Since the Montreal UNFCCC talks in 2005 (where It’s Getting Hot In Here was launched), youth delegates have shaken up the system both within the talks and outside the gates. Each year, hundreds of youth from around the world – with a prominence of youth from the local and surrounding area – attend this international summit to lobby their country delegations and standing in solidarity for a strong agreement and a just future.

Check Youthclimate.org for updates from the international youth delegations and participation in these summits.

Next summit: Conference of the Parties (COP), Session 15 in Copenhagen, Denmark from December 7 to 18, 2009.  Visit http://en.cop15.dk/ for full information.
