Green Light!

aokappall3.jpgVan Jones is at it again! In his post on The Huffington Post, Mr. Jones sheds light on the overlooked Green Jobs Act of 2007. He points out that while the current House Energy Package that was introduced before the August recess, the Green Jobs Act is overshadowed by debate over the Renewable Fuels Standard/Portfolio, CAFÉ standards, the plight of the auto industry, and fossil fuel reduction systems. While these are issues are extremely important, we cannot overlook the incredible economic impact the Green Jobs Act of 2007 will have on rural and urban areas.

Jones points out that the Green Jobs Act of 2007 initial step in the green movement. According to Jones, “We must take smart steps to help ensure that those communities that were locked OUT of the pollution-based economy are locked INTO the clean, green economy.” Here. Thousands of jobs will be dedicated to people that have disenfranchised under the current “grey” energy era. These jobs are secured by the fact that all the services provided are exclusive to the United States.

Jones makes sure to credit all parties involved in the creation of the act. Jones praises Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, for her dedication to seeing this bill through. Jones states, “The Speaker is the first national leader — and the highest-ranking person in the U.S. government — to find a practical way to advance “green-collar jobs” as a cornerstone for the clean-energy revolution.”

So, are you tired of seeing the rich get richer by polluting our earth with fossil fuels. Do you want to see “Green Collar” jobs reduce American poverty in the emerging renewable energy based economy? If so, now is the time to take action and urge your representative to co-sponsor this landmark legislation

Edwards Makes Green Jobs a Factor

Former North Carolina Senator, 2004 Vice Presidential Candidate, and 2008 Presidential Candidate John Edwards is the first to create an agenda to address climate change and the need for green collar jobs.

In June at Take Back America, sponsored by the Center for American Progress; Edwards boldly addressed climate change and his plans to stand up to face the impending disaster.

Green Giants

Last week, I posted a blog on the Green Jobs Act of 2007 which was introduced by Congresswoman Solis and Congressman Tierney. Their proposed legislation recommends a modest allotment of $125 million to be devoted to the creation of “green collar” job training programs to urban and rural areas.

After re-reading my blog, I realized that I did not give examples of green job programs throughout the country. My researched headed west to Oakland where I met pioneers in the green movement. Oakland is rated as one of the top ten Green Cities in the country. Mayor Ron Dellums has promised to make Oakland a “global green leader” and a “model city” for the renewable era. “Green Collar Jobs”: Congresswoman Solis at the Forefront Once Again

hlsglacier.jpg In my last entry, “Who’s Hot, Who’s Not”, I covered influential political figures devoted to promoting and curbing climate change. I would like to take this time today to highlight a woman that did not make last week’s list because she deserves personal attention. Since being elected in 2000, Congresswoman Solis (D-CA) has been a pioneer in the fight for environmental justice, the expansion of renewable energy, and the augmentation of “Green Collar Job” programs. Her commitment to environmental advocacy earned her the prestigious John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. Solis serves on the House Committee on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the House Committee on Natural Resources, and the new House Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

Who’s Hot, Who’s NOT!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen dedicated to the conservation and preservation of Earth. I am Richard Scott, a budding actor and political scientist devoted to the expansion of renewable energy programs designed to curb climate change. I am a novice to blogging so please have pity on me.

I thought I would take the time to introduce myself to you so that you can get to know me a little better. First, I am the new National Policy and Organizing Fellow at the Energy Action Coalition. Second, I have been told by countless by professors that my provocative arguments are hampered by my incessant degradation of grammar; so I would like to apologize for any mistakes that may follow this introduction.

I have compiled a small list that I have named “Who’s HOT, Who’s Not”. This is a small list that highlights the politicians that are fighting to prevent the ecological devastation climate change will inevitably bring and a list of politicians dedicated to making money no matter the cost. This list is evolving and is subject to change at any time; it is solely dependent on the present performance of legislators and officials.

Keep reading to see whose hot and not this week…

editors note: Unlike the infamous Hot or Not here on IGHIH, Hot is bad.
