Florida students want Clean Energy‚Ķ Now!

Students are taking it upon themselves to pick up the financial slack

Sentiment is the same across the state: Students want clean energy. Over the past year, students from the University of Central Florida, New College, Florida Atlantic University and the University of Florida have been putting together a comprehensive plan to attain their goals of getting clean energy on their campuses. The first phase of the plan is to begin a “Green Fee” paid along with tuition.

A Call for Grassroots Resistance to FPL in Defense of the Everglades!

Who can envision a more dastardly dEverglades Destructionuo, and a more worthy opponent, than fossil fuel barons and real estate developers encroaching into the Everglades? Between the pollution, water consumption, sprawl and catastrophic climate change*, our generation may well be the last to know the Everglades ecosystem. Both hydrologists and climate scientists have spelled this out repeatedly and with a terrifying clarity—many are finally beginning to listen. Unfortunately, Florida Power & Light (FPL) is still raising high the torch and carrying on the South Florida tradition of acting without regard for consequence or reason. But no longer will we grant them easy passage…

SEN & COA Green’s the ‘rado’ in South Florida.

This spring break students working with the Southern Energy Network joined with Change of Atmosphere to bring a green perspective to the Langerado Music Festival in Sunrise Florida.

The group, lovingly dubbed “Green-A-Rado” consisted of students representing various environmentalGreenarado1 groups from Valdosta State University, New College of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of Florida, and University of Memphis. The group was brought together through collaborative efforts of Change of Atmosphere and the Southern Energy Network to educate, engage, and empower a greater understanding and excitement of sustainability for the individual festival attendee. Florida governor addresses Global Warming; Students converge to develop their plan.

Friday March 2nd, Students from UCF, FAU Honors College, Ringling, UF, Broward CC and New FSSESCollege of Florida gathered at the New College campus in Sarasota for the second Florida Student Sustainable Energy Summit of the school year. The summit occured only ticks away from Governor Christ’s State of the State address and a outrageously successful student referendum for the creation of a Renewable Energy Fund at the University of Florida.
