Two held on $100,000 bails for non-violent protest; Demand Bail Reduction: Call Magistrate Snodgrass 304-369-7360

Contact: Dea Goblirsch 304-854-7372

EmmaKate and Benjamin remain in Southwestern Regional Jail this morning held on $100,000 bails for their blockade of Massey Energy Regional Headquarters in Boone county, W.Va.

We are asking you to call Magistrate Snodgrass and demand their bails be reduced to a reasonable amounts.

Benjamin’s case number is: 10-M-7-11-12-13-14

EmmaKate’s case number is: 10-M-7-15-16-17-18

Here’s an example statement: I am calling to express my outrage at the exorbitantly high bail Magistrate Snodgrass set for EmmaKate Martin and Benjamin Bryant. Their case numbers are 10-M-7-11-12-13-14 and 10-M-7-15-16-17-18. The 8th Amendment states “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.”  Snodgrass is using bail as punishment, and it is certainly excessive.  He is doing a disservice to society by holding them behind bars until their hearing.  Please reduce their bail to a reasonable amount that reflects their four non-violent misdemeanor charges.

Boone County Magistrate Office: 304-369-7360

Act in solidarity with EmmaKate, Benjamin, and all of those who are standing on the front lines of destruction. Call Magistrate Snodgrass and pass this on to your networks.

DONATE TO THE CLIMATE GROUND ZERO LEGAL FUND!

It’s pretty outrageous that these two non-violent activists are held on $100k bond each while that criminal thug Don Blankenship walks around free.

That is ridiculous. Peaceful protesters don’t warrant such high bail. they could have been ROR.

Major props to EmmaKate and Nick – we need more people like you and the folks at climate ground zero! I might not agree with your politics 100% of the time, but I absolutely admire your resolve to do what’s right.

    Keep it up.

I wonder how many shares of Massey stock are owned by Magistrate Snodgrass. I wonder what bail was set for the last meth lab owner arraigned in the same court. Emmakate and Nick are heroes of the Coal War and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate the waters of a corrupt WV judicial system.

I hope that this message gets to mr snodgrass. You need to let all three of them have reduced bail. It is not a rape case nor is it a felony. So for inmate 10-M-7-11-13-14and inmate 10-M-7-15-16-17-18 reduce their bail. Their message is a non violent one.I dont know them but its not cool to just take advantage of ones authority to place a fear in them when a person seeks the maximum penalty for this. When the real violent offenders you need to worry about. I like West Virgina dont make me not like West Virginia. Pass it on fight the good fight and any form of retailiation is illegal . My rights by the first ammendment. freedom of speech

@Hawriverfilms: Cool video, but I’d like to clarify that Mike Roselle isn’t the “leader” of CGZ. The CGZ campaign operates without a formal hierarchy, and even informally, he is not in a leadership role.
