US Youth Crash Climate Denier Live Webcast in Copenhagen

Fifty young Americans took over a climate denier conference hosted by a prominent conservative organization this evening in Copenhagen, rushing the stage and telling the live TV audience that a clean energy future is the real road to prosperity in America. The young people, merely a fraction of the more than 350 US youth in Denmark for the UN climate negotiations, entered a session of the Americans for Prosperity “Hot Air Tour” speakers series and were able to drop two banners and gain access to the conference’s stage. The live event was webcast to over forty climate denier rallies in cities across the United States.

The students entered the event in small groups, joining a paltry audience of five conference attendees, who had come to hear climate denier Lord Christopher Monckton speak about the Copenhagen climate negotiations. After the first five minutes of the event, student representatives from SustainUS, the Cascade Climate Network, and other American youth NGOs displayed banners reading “Climate Disaster Ahead” and “Clean Energy Now.” After security agents at the event took the banners, the young attendees began a chant of “Real Americans for Prosperity are Americans for Clean Energy.” The chant lasted five minutes, as the youth took the stage and displayed their message for the live video feed being sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, despite evasive action on the camera crew’s part. As they left the stage, Lord Monckton repeatedly called the activists “Hitler Youth” and “nazis.”

“Clean energy creates jobs,” says Rachel Barge, a 24-year-old entrepreneur from San Francisco, CA who was the first young person to raise her voice at the event, “These climate action delayers and science deniers are  stealing bold, new economic opportunities from the American public.”

Laura Comer, 21, of Strongsville, OH, seconded Barge, saying, “We’re representing the majority of Americans on this, particularly young Americans. The real America wants clean energy – not more fossil fuel-funded lies about the science.”

“We are Americans for prosperity too,” says Ethan Buckner, “Prosperity that’s created through a new clean energy economy that will revitalize the American economy and provide millions of clean energy jobs for our generation and all generations to come.”

“We need a strong climate and clean energy bill from Congress and a science-based and just treaty in Copenhagen in order to jump start this new energy economy Americans are calling for so loudly,” adds Ben Wessel of SustainUS, “The youth of America are ready to move forward into a sustainable future, and we need our elected officials to join us. We refuse to sit quietly today while our leaders decide the future of tomorrow.”

According to this website http://www.prisonplanet.com/monckton-secretive-copenhagen-treaty-creates-larcenous-global-government-tax.html Lord Monckton has called the climategate gang fraudsters:

“…privately what they’re saying in the climategate emails is ‘hey look we’ve got a temperature which has been falling and we can’t explain why and it’s a travesty that we can’t explain why’ – so they’re saying one thing to us publicly to maintain the scare that’s making them rich, and that’s what’s called fraud, it’s criminal fraud,” (For a video see: http://kishtube.blogspot.com/2009/12/lord-monckton-calls-for-criminal-fraud.html)

Now, unless these climategate scientists have the guts to sue, to stop “hiding the decline”, put the data before the real scrutiny of a court of law and prove they weren’t commiting fraud, unless they sue, they really are effectively admitting it has all been one big fraud.

    This is hot stuff!

Great work in Copenhagen! When the deniers start resorting to nonsensical accusations that youth green jobs activists are Nazis, you really know they’re getting desperate. I find it hard to beleive that such accusations could accomplish anything except for making the deniers look like the extremist crazies they really are.

Oh thank you all for this one. Please continue to make a whole lot more noise than the deniers over there.

These young fools are doing what young fools do – shout over their intellectual superiors so they can feel like they’re right. So sad. They have no idea the lies have been pored over them to make them act this way and, even more sad, they won’t look at the evidence that outright proves it. It’s enough to make a grown polar bear cry.

Good move – can you see if the indigenous peoples of SA want some allies?

thank you for your fight against the reactionary fools—thank you for making the youth of America look intelligent and involved

Well done! Keep up the good work, so we old SustainUS fogies don’t get too jaded :-)

Well, it looks like you do fit into the category of intolerant, anti-intellectuals. If you can not allow others to state their case you can not win your point of view except by force. If you can not argue your case with legitimate science you become ignorant tools of other’s agendas. Fascists? no certainly not, but they are most likely the ones to whose tune you are unknowingly marching. Sad you can not work within the scientific community but this “movement” is not known for its education, critical thinking or intelligence. You commonly attack Exxon when it is Exxon and others that are getting the billions of dollars in carbon credits at societal expense while you get none. Open your eyes.

This creative and peaceful protest illustrates how lucky we are stateside to have such a strong formal and informal youth delegation in Copenhagen, seizing every possible, creative opportunity to send the message that lawmakers in the US and beyond need to step up with much bolder leadership to dramatically reduce global warming pollution and advance safe, clean, renewable energy. There is little more important on Earth right now than sending the message that young leaders understand the stakes and deserve much more from educators and from other US and world leaders.

I love this comment! It shows a kind of nostalgia for lost orthodoxy from people who call themselves “climate heretics”…
But don’t despair, Lord Monckton is undoubtely the first Caudillo of the CRR (Climate Realist Reconquista) and valiantly defeated those young green ayatollahs, isn’t it ? He will soon be joined by McCharlemagne, the famous HSS (Hockey Stick Slayer) which last trick exposed the fraud of the Hockey Team, who tried to hide the Fact that global temperatures decreased since 1960. 1960 is a good value, well placed between V.Gray’s 1940 and Lindzen’s 1998. As for the CO2 rise, not only it’s good for agriculture but it’s surely a consequence of the MWP (medieval warm period), shown to be 2-3°C warmer than now (the remarkable CO2science site has a spatiotemporal documentation of the Fact). The MWP occurred around 1200 AD, thus 800 years ago… 800 oh yes, the ice cores proved that CO2 levels lagged temperature by 800 years. Yes, the ice core CO2 data, unreliable according to Jaworowski, another white knight who endorsed E-G Beck’s data showing the influence of the phase of the Moon.
Courage… With such combined forces, sooner or later it will be the time for the fall of Granada, with FatAlGore in the role of King Boabdil, weeping as a woman what he didn’t defend as a man. He will be sent back to the Barbaresques, as an oil extraction platform manager. For which company, is open to guess!

    Good evening

    Yves

I love it…self-righteous youths being offended because they have been compared to “Hitler youth” for dressing up in red shirts, storming into and interrupting a private meeting, and shouting party line slogans. Perhaps now they are beginning to understand what it is like to be called nasty names, with nasty connotations….like “denier.”

Bravo Lord Monckton for making this point, and making it well. It’s about time someone did.

Next time try not deleting comments that make salient points. I’ll state it again. What’s the carbon footprint of the heroes who FLEW halfway across the globe to champion reducing CO2 emissions? Huh?

From looking at the clip, everyone seems well-meaning as well as well-fed. Folks living on reservations, like me, see your kind now and then. You would prefer we live as some sort of museum exhibit – while you get all the privileges of the modern world. Should the Navajos try to build a power plant, however, you use your considerable white-world influence to keep Indians in poverty. Seems you want to spread your hegemony to the rest of the world.

If you really believed in MMGW, you wouldn’t created such a vast carbon footprint by traveling overseas. It’s really just a fashion show for your white-world enjoyment. Poor folks don’t get to travel, overseas or otherwise. You’d prefer to keep the mass of darker humanity out of the markets, and out of your way.

Bet you won’t publish this little note. Like your government scientists, any opinion that might interfere with you Dr. Feelgood party must be suppressed.

    Neshobanakni,

Yes flying to Copenhagen uses fuel and produces carbon emissions. However, if we can get countries to commit to plans for how to reduce emissions, improve fuel efficiency, transition to less carbon-intensive sources of energy, the benefits of those actions will FAR outweigh the contribution of a few young people to Europe.

I would just like to comment on the reported who claimed that these “children” know no science, because a lot of these students are majoring in environmental sciences. Assumptions like that is uneducated.
