You can change the system that you live in. It will take time, but a public transport and cycle campaign can change the ‘default’ being car ownership by necessity.

We now use consumer products for essential systems. The auto-system of human transport is based on a consumer product: the private automobile — so “individual choice” is not an option. For most people it is basically a) get a car or b) be unemployed.
