I disagree and believe that it is our country´s institutions that are disrespecting Canadian civil society. The fact that the Canadian government is not signing the UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights and Bill C-311 is a very clear example of that.

Amd why is this a gross embarrassment...are you embarrassed to be part of civil society? I would be more embarrassed to be part of the government if they are unable to sign onto a declaration from the United Nations that says they should respect indigenous rights. It is appalling and disgusting that they will not sign onto this, let alone pass a bill that would require the country to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing GHG emissions would mean that Canada actually cares about protecting groups affected by climate change. Many of these groups are marginalized groups, such as indigenous peoples.

What is even more grossly embarrassing, is that after people have made a statement that these two issues are very important to them...there has been no news as to whether the government will sign the declaration or pass the bill.

I think it is great what the young people did. The majority of politicians voted to sit on their hands while the rest of the world prepares for Copenhagen. Shame on them! Someone has to get in there and wake them up!

This protest was a gross embarrassment, and an affront to Canadian democracy. There is nothing wrong with vigorous protest OUTside Parliament but if activists show so little respect for our country's institutions, why should anyone have any respect for them and what they have to say?
