Power Shift ’09 Exposed: The Media Uncovers a Movement

With just 9 days until Power Shift 2009 kicks off, staff, volunteers, and supporters are doing some pretty crazy things to raise funds, bring more students, and prepare for the biggest youth climate conference yet.

Just this afternoon in our overcrowded hallway our field staff sang a rewritten version of the Proclaimers I Will Be(500 Miles) to celebrate our recruitment progress thus far. Here is an excerpt (lyrics credit goes to Josh Tulkin)…

When I wake up yeah I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the man who phonebanks another youth
When I go out yeah I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the man who registers youth

If I Twitter, yes I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the man who Twitters about the youth
If I Facebook, yes I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the man who Facebooks the Power Shift group

And I will get 10,000 people and then I will get 10,000 more
just be the man who gets 10,000 to the White House door

In other parts of the country there are college presidents growing Power Beards as well as students organizing raffles, selling pizza, and using Facebook to raise funds.

Here’s a quick roundup of some of the media and blog hits Power Shift ’09 has received.

I fall asleep at night dreaming about how awesome Rosenberg’s Power Beard will be once it becomes friendly mutton chops.

President Rosenberg rocks! I think the other Presidents who have signed onto the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment should step up to the plate and launch their own hirsute fundraiser!

Danny has spent years roaming the world, gathering experiences, figuring out his creed, and leaving good cheer behind wherever he stopped. Afraid to just jump into the rut mentality of American maturation he let the whims of the world train and direct his actions. He spent the last few years juggling stints as a community and youth developer in central Asia and the trying life of a ski bum in Colorado. He has now settled down in DC where he combines his unique blend of charm, experience, and intelligence to inspire, motivate, and organize the Energy Action Coalition's online communities.
