King Coal Resembling Big Tobacco More and More

Peabody has a new ad campaign where they put sunglasses on a piece of coal and try to make it look “cool.”

Uhhh, isn’t that ironic? Coal the leading source of green house emissions in the heating of the planet trying to look “cool.”

There are also the eerie parallels between the coal industry and the tobacco industry as many point to resemblances to cool coal and Joe Camel. Both industries use a lot of marketing and public relations to sugarcoat their products. The reality is that tobacco caused a lot of health problems  and coal causes a whole list of health and environmental problems (look at the recent TVA spills in east Tennessee if you don’t believe me)

The elaborate strategies of the coal lobby’s PR firm closely resemble those that brought us the “safe cigarette.” The coal lobby went so far as to gain leverage on all the major party candidates during the 08 elections. Internal memo’s from the spin-doctors who started using “clean” and “coal” in the same sentence have been leaked, recently.

    A few gems:

“We nearly turned candidate events into clean coal rallies,”

“We did this by sending ‘clean coal’ branded teams to hundreds of presidential candidate events, carrying a positive message (we can be part of the solution to climate change) which was reinforced by giving away free t-shirts and hats emblazoned with our branding: Clean Coal.”

“ACCCE (a coal indusry front group) shaped the debate by finding supporters of the candidates and turning them into clean coal advocates.”

blog post with links to the Jan 14th press release and the original memo, here:

Amazing that they’ve chosen to do this, truly resembling Joe Camel. Right on the tail of the Clean Coal Carolers, this is a pretty impressive/disgusting image.

The harder they try, the more transparent they are!! This is hilarious! ha ha ha
I was so proud and happy to hear how Barbara Boxer stood up against Big Coal– when I realized, as soon as she did,
it was Little Coal! ha ha ha
I am so happy that America is waking up! America has opened her eyes and she is yawning! A new day is dawning– and Little Coal has no Bush to hide behind!! ha ha ha
They have broken so many laws– ha ha If you have stock in Coal– pull out now! ha ha Coal is OVER
    Rejoice!
Trade your stocks in Coal and Citibank over to Helix turbines and solar panels, photovoltaic cell technology and Seeds of Change– at least buy your seeds!! eat your own food- work from home

I am so happy!! Keep the awareness flowing!! like cool mountain springs– that’s what is really cool
    and beautiful swimming rivers!!
    Breathe like you mean it!!
