As someone who has lived overseas I know how soccer is followed and how lucrative it can be. Why should the school board give up their rights without any compensation. Look at other finge groups who will profit such as lawyers and support businesses. Post the project revenue for the stadium and use that as a basis of fair and equitable compensation for the requested rezoning rights. This is a simple problem with a very simple solution.

Please get your facts straight before writing a piece like this. This "once nerdy and ignored school district", as your called it didn't own the land, and wasn't being forced to sign over 40 acres. The request was for the school district, which collects taxes on the property inside of its district, to rezone a parcel of land to match the surrounding land. The parcel in question is 4.6 acres, was called Barry Bridge Park, and was never owned by the school district. The ownership of the team simply requested the parcel be re-zoned to match the surrounding area on which the stadium is being built. The school district, pretty much attempted to blackmail the team into buying the re-zoning rights. The quote from the meeting that you left out pretty much sums up the school districts position:
“All I want is our piece of the action,” said board member Juan Baughn. “I want to be as clear as I can … we need money.” -quoted in the Delaware County Times 12/31/08.
