Generation-we is a good concept, but "taking over the world"? Where does that leave others in this generation who dont leave in the US...like those who live in developing countries?

Agreed, fusion is longer term technology. I posted the ITER link since I rarely read anything on fusion these days outside of the fusioneers themselves.

I'll have to ask my Albuquerque cousin about that "Southwest Dessert". ;-)

I of course meant "desert southwest"... a "dessert southwest" may be a delicious after dinner treat from Albuquerque, but I'm not sure what it has to do with renewable energy. ;)

Fusion is the end-game, and ITER is definitely a worthwhile project. But I was a bit concerned with the policy recommendations the Gen We folks had in that they specifically mention hydrogen, fusion and a 100% "off-grid" distributed energy system as the key energy solutions. They might be... in two or three or four decades. But the core solutions available today are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, solar, wind, geothermal, advanced biomass/biofuels, and efficiency, efficiency, efficiency. Hydrogen is an energy carrier, not an energy source, and not a particularly good one at that. Fusion is a long-shot technology that we should be investing in now for eventual payoff decades from now. And a distributed grid is great, but should be integrated with a nation-spanning "electron superhighway" that lets us efficiently tap the vast renewable energy reserves of this great nation - solar in the dessert southwest, wind in the great plains, wave power off the Pacific Coast - and deliver clean electricity to our homes, businesses and new, plug-in hybrid cars. So, I'd give them an A for message, video, and intentions and a B- for policy.

If anyone is interested in the latest in fusion, here is the site of the ITER Project:

http://www.iter.org/

They do not get much press, but they are working on the components and preparing the plant site.
