Thanks for posting this Morgan. If you've got a couple mins, please use them to do this!

Here's what I wrote:

Dear Johannes Swoboda,

My name is Jenny Bedell-Stiles and I am a citizen of the United States living in the state of Oregon. I am writing you regarding your critical upcoming decision concerning the climate crisis. Please please PLEASE do not allow the EU climate package to be watered down! You will soon be making a decision that's implications will resound all over this planet. The world is looking to you for leadership to stand strong and continue to aggressively fight global warming.

I come from a country, as you well know, where our administration has not acted appropriately to take measures to address the climate crisis. Instead of joining the global effort to start addressing this problem and join the Kyoto Protocol, the US has ignored the science and as nation we have remained inactive. Many citizens of this country are damn near fed up with the indolence of this administration and have been working for years to implement global warming solutions locally. For example, the western states of the US are working on climate negotiations called the WCI, the Western Climate Initiative. My city of Portland, OR has achieved Kyoto standards by working on public transportation and land use planning measures.

My point is that while my administration does not support my decisions, here in the U.S., there are millions of individuals who are working towards solutions. And we have appreciated the work and successes other countries such as yours have made. We are grateful for your aggressive public stances and efforts. Since my own country is taking little action on this issue, can you please be my voice in this global community?

I am 24 years old and in my life thus far I have found that I care about this issue above all others. Everything that I hold near and dear upon this planet is being affected by this problem. Please, as a global community we must join together to create a sustainable, just, and prosperous future for all! None of us can do it alone. But together, we can take the opportunities that this crisis provides us with and work our way into a future that your children, and one day mine, can look forward to. And your vote to uphold the aggressive nature of the EU climate package is a most critical step in the process of reaching this global cooperation.

Thankyou very much for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Jenny Bedell-Stiles
