The EU is in danger of weakening its climate position as we head into the negotiations in Poland. You can help. Send an e-mail to each of the 6 listed Members of Parliament and tell them that the climate disruptions don’t listen to what is politically correct.
Read the response that I sent to each of them: Read below the fold for more information.
Dear
I hope you can guide the ongoing climate treaty negotiations to a safe and prosperous outcome. This is potentially the biggest issue the world has ever faced, which means there are more invested interests, power centers and opinions than on any other issue. I understand that many governments, industries and organizations would like to weaken the proposed climate treaty to make it more ‘feasible’ and less ‘costly’. But we are starting to realize that the world needs to bring carbon levels down to 350 parts per million as quickly as possible. That is our bottom line, and any argument that it is too difficult is risking the destruction of our life here.
I am a grassroots organizer and youth climate activist in the United States. We are working around the clock here to ensure that our country makes a 180 degree shift, that our new leadership commits to facing the energy challenge. Given how hard we are working, I am terrified to hear that the global climate negotiations are in danger of loosing their potency. We are fighting for global warming and energy solutions, city by city and state by state. Please hear our voices urging you to keep up the good work and give us a strong climate policy that gets us to 350 parts per million.
Thank you very much,
Morgan Goodwin

This is an URGENT report and rushing call for action directly from Sven Heijbel in Brussels. The alert below must activate as many networks as possible to take IMMEDIATE action in order to prevent a collapse of the European and World climate policies!
The NGO organizations (like WWF, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Oxfam, Can Europe) lobbying experts and friendly Members of Parliament are at this very moment telling us that the already weak EU climate package is being watered down by massive industry lobby. EU is an absolute key actor in the international climate negotiations and if Brussels won’t take leadership then it is hard to tell who can. This means that a robust climate deal in Copenhagen that is supposed to save us from dangerous climate change is not looking good. This is nothing but a global nightmare. If temperatures are allowed to rise by 4°C that would lead to an Armageddon scenario with burning rain forests, billions of refugees and a multi-meter sea level rise. This seems to be the way that the industry committee in the EU wants to go, but we cannot allow it! Their vote for the ETS, a central part of the EU energy package is already on Thursday so the best is to take action immediately. Remember that input after Thursday still is highly valuable.
Me, The NGO team, and even worried Members of Parliament on the inside are now begging on our knees for you to help put pressure on the key parliamentarians that we have identified as most important. European citizens are totally absent from the political stage right now, which means that a couple of hundred e-mails can make a huge difference. If you as an individual wants to make a significant difference for our common future, then now is the time!
This is what you can do:
Send an e-mail to each of the 6 listed Members of Parliament and tell them that the climate disruptions don’t listen to what is politically correct. Tell them that they are responsible for how our lives and our common home will look like and that this is the key issue for the Parliament elections next year. If you don’t feel like being specific, just demand that they do what is necessary to secure a living future and that this is a time for the making of heroes.
It is vitally important that this call is spread to all of your networks, blogging contacts and facebook. Call and e-mail all of your friends! The key decisions are taken in Brussels this week, so this is our chance!

Friends, it is mind-blowing that we as individuals can change the way of history in the following days! From a terrified Sven Heijbel, Brussels

Thanks for posting this Morgan. If you’ve got a couple mins, please use them to do this!
Here’s what I wrote:
Dear Johannes Swoboda,
My name is Jenny Bedell-Stiles and I am a citizen of the United States living in the state of Oregon. I am writing you regarding your critical upcoming decision concerning the climate crisis. Please please PLEASE do not allow the EU climate package to be watered down! You will soon be making a decision that’s implications will resound all over this planet. The world is looking to you for leadership to stand strong and continue to aggressively fight global warming.
I come from a country, as you well know, where our administration has not acted appropriately to take measures to address the climate crisis. Instead of joining the global effort to start addressing this problem and join the Kyoto Protocol, the US has ignored the science and as nation we have remained inactive. Many citizens of this country are damn near fed up with the indolence of this administration and have been working for years to implement global warming solutions locally. For example, the western states of the US are working on climate negotiations called the WCI, the Western Climate Initiative. My city of Portland, OR has achieved Kyoto standards by working on public transportation and land use planning measures.
My point is that while my administration does not support my decisions, here in the U.S., there are millions of individuals who are working towards solutions. And we have appreciated the work and successes other countries such as yours have made. We are grateful for your aggressive public stances and efforts. Since my own country is taking little action on this issue, can you please be my voice in this global community?
I am 24 years old and in my life thus far I have found that I care about this issue above all others. Everything that I hold near and dear upon this planet is being affected by this problem. Please, as a global community we must join together to create a sustainable, just, and prosperous future for all! None of us can do it alone. But together, we can take the opportunities that this crisis provides us with and work our way into a future that your children, and one day mine, can look forward to. And your vote to uphold the aggressive nature of the EU climate package is a most critical step in the process of reaching this global cooperation.
Thankyou very much for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jenny Bedell-Stiles
