Ride your bike for the climate

Here’s a guest post from David Kroodsma, a climate activist who has biked across South America and the United States spreading the word about the climate movement. Now, he’s helping organize the Brita Climate Ride, a group ride from New York City to Washington DC, to put some pressure on congress:

I’m one of the many riders who are joining the Brita Climate Ride - a five day bike tour from New York City to Washington DC this September 20th to 24th to promote renewable energy and solutions to global warming.

This event is the first of its kind. On the eve of the elections, one hundred Climate Riders will pedal 320 miles through scenic backcountry roads to arrive on the steps of our nation’s Capitol. The ride passes through the urban landscape of Manhattan, rural woodlands of New Jersey, pastoral Amish country in Pennsylvania, and the equine estates of Maryland before arriving in DC.

Our riders are a diverse and fun group of people. We’ve got students, non-profit professionals, business people, and adventurists. It will be 5 days of camaraderie and pedaling for a clean energy future.

Each night, while at camp, expert speakers will give talks to our riders on the challenges and solutions of the climate crisis. We call it a “Climate Conference on Wheels.”

We’ve got a few remaining spots, and we want YOU to join us!

Yes, there is a fundraising requirement for the ride - but if you ask your friends, family, and neighbors, you will be surprised how easy it is to raise. Our beneficiaries are Clean Air – Cool Planet and Focus the Nation, two excellent organizations that work to spread awareness and bring about real change.

Visit our website, and join us! Let’s take our message to Washington!

I can’t wait to see this mass of pedal-powered climate lobbyists descend on the capitol! If you can’t join for the whole ride but you’re in the DC area, please come join us on September 24th!
