Kind of echoing what Jesse said here, but defining ourselves as social entrepreneurs opens the door to so many more people. I just got back from a conference of 40-some amazing students who are doing fantastic work around diverse topics like gentrification, food security, democracy, social justice, education, and health that are all connected to "environmentalism," but not in the traditional sense. It was amazingly inspiring, but it makes me kind of sad that many of them might not see a "movement" to plug in to.

I think at some point, the term climate may become obsolete; we are simply kick-ass positive entrepreneurs and activists and our movement is simply the youth movement. I'm not sure what would be lost in this process, but I now know a lot would be gained.

Great post Morgan! I think expanding our frame of thinking about what it means to be a "climate activist" to include the concept of social entrepreneur-ship is so key. It also recognizes that solving the climate crisis will require solutions at all scales, and require out best, innovative minds. It also recognizes that innovative citizens - including young people - can play an active role in developing climate solutions, not just in pushing "decisionmakers" - Congress, the President, "Big Business" etc. - to enact solutions. Finally, in expanding what it means to be a "climate activist," the concept of social entrepreneurs opens a new space and new "access points" for many more people to see themselves as members of our movement - whether you are working to hold corporations accountable, fighting to win legislative victories, working to end injustices like mountain top removal, or launching a new innovative non-profit (or for-profit) social entrepreneurial business venture, you are part of the movement for climate solutions!
