Project Slingshot deadline approaching! « It’s Getting Hot In Here

Only five days left before the application deadline for Project Slingshot – three $10k grants to propel your ideas for global warming solutions into action. One winner in each category – Artists inspiring their communities, Outdoor fanatics protecting the places they love to play and Innovators challenging our expectations – will receive up to $10,000 to make their ideas a reality this summer.

The application deadline is this Saturday, March 15^th. Winners will be announced on Earth Day when they’ll be invited to Clif Bar headquarters to meet experts in the field of their projects and strategize on how make them succeed.

This is a huge opportunity for three inspired individuals to devote an entire summer to activism. The award provides for a $5,000 stipend for living and up to $5,000 for project expenses. If you have an idea, give it a shot!

About Alex

Alex Tinker is the Director of Civic Engagement for Focus the Nation, an organization that provides a platform for young people to engage their elected leaders on climate and energy issues. Before coming to Focus the Nation as a national organizer in 2007, Alex was a field manager for Working America/AFL-CIO where he worked to pass the Healthy Kids Plan and Employee Free Choice Act. His career as an activist dates back to canvassing against anti-gay Ballot Measure Nine in 1992 and he has been involved in peace and social justice work with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) his whole life. Most recently, Alex coordinated visits with 50 Congressional offices as a part of Climate Ride 2008. Alex holds a B.S. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Oregon.
