Let Citi’s fingers do the walking…

RAN’s Online Organizing team is feeling frisky this holiday season.

Check out the latest online action. We’ve found a tool on Citi’s website that gets them to call us. Once they call, we ask them why they are funding coal extractors and coal plants.

It’s already making a splash at Citi as the operators are telling us they are experiencing a high volume of requests from our email.

Join in and get Citi to call you and tell them that coal is over and to start funding the future.

Make Citi Call You and Defend Funding Coal!

******************************************************
Dear Friends,

Citi and Bank of America certainly heard from RAN last week.

Thousands of activists took to the streets during RAN’s National
Day of Action Against Coal Finance. We held hundreds of actions,
rallies and protests from one coast to the other — and in
plenty of places in between. Every action had one clear message
for both banks: stop funding coal, start funding renewable
energy!

But I have a question for you: What would you say about coal if
Citi called you?

::Would you ask them why they are the biggest backer of coal,
the single biggest cause of global warming?
::Would you want to know why they intend to fund the
construction of 150 new coal-fired power plants across the U.S.?
::Would you tell them that the future is more important than
short-term profits?

Well, get ready because you can make Citi call you right now!

Just follow this link, enter your phone number, and a representative from Citi will call you.

Seriously. It’s a new feature of their website, and we’re
“borrowing” it. They have no idea we’re coming, and I need your
help because the more time and money we cost them, the bigger
our impact. The phrase “money talks” couldn’t be truer than when
you?re talking about the world’s biggest bank.

Citi wants to build more than 150 new coal-fired power plants in
the United States. In terms of greenhouse gases — which cause
global warming — that’s the same impact as adding 100 million
new cars to our roads each year. They heard from us on the
streets, now let’s make them give each one of us a personal
phone call.

Haven’t you always wanted one of the biggest companies in the
world to call you up and ask what you think of its environmental
practices?

Make Citi call you today and tell them to stop funding coal and
start funding alternative energy!

We’re taking on the some of biggest companies in the world,
including Citi, because we’re taking on one of the biggest
issues facing the world. I need your support.

Thank you,

Rebecca Tarbotton

    I made the call.

They took my name and phone number and said I would be added to a list of concerned clients. That list will supposedly make its way to management and be addressed. I asked if they operator thought they had received a lot of calls today regarding the issue. She said they had.

I plan to call back tomorrow to see where it all stands, once a day until I get answers.

Let’s hear back some reactions from other people’s calls.

What an awesome idea…i think more of this would be a good idea.

On the other hand, how about doing after Reuters, AFP, BBC…either for a phone in or relating to a specific project. A mass phone in along side a press release perhaps?

Good Idea. “Citi Bank called us, but declined to comment.” would be an interesting new media spin.
