Brevard Cuts Work Days, Saves Energy (and $35,000/month!)

My friend has a poster in their living room that says “People who work less like to get nekkid.” On that note:

BREVARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE, (COCOA), FLA. – Brevard Community College will kick off its new four-day work week on Monday, June 25 to cut energy costs and save employees money on gas.

The pilot project, which will run six weeks, will be reviewed and possibly continue into the fall, said Jim Ross, Vice President for Advancement and Public Affairs.

Staff will work extended hours Monday through Thursday, and will not work on Fridays. Although a few classes are held on Fridays those schedules will continue, Ross said.

The college’s security office, child development centers, call center and WBCC-TV will remain open. Inquiries about BCC classes and other questions will be answered on Fridays through the college’s call center, which will operate extended hours on Fridays to serve customers.

“This is an opportunity to save thousands of dollars each month on energy bills,” Ross said. “It also will help improve the quality of life for employees as it reduces the amount of money each week they spend on rising gas prices. More than half of Florida’s 28 community colleges have successfully converted to this system. We look forward to exploring this option as well.”
