Great! It is encouraging to see a new presidential candidate enter the race who is willing to step up to the plate. He is calling for bold action in all sectors, with some ambitious numbers. To my knowledge he is the first candidate to call for a 90% carbon cut by 2050.

One of his greatest strengths is not just his progressive policy but also his hopeful rhetoric. I agree with Jesse that this kind of optimism is crucial in this era of political cynicism.

For more details on his comprehensive energy plan check out:

It’s a great policy speech that he gave to the New American Foundation. http://www.newamerica.net/

Let’s hope more presidential candidates jump on board and inspire Americans into action!

Check out the first video. I love that he gets applause when he says he will ask people to sacrifice a little in the name of energy independence. John Edwards got a similar reaction when speaking to crowds in New Hampshire (see this video of Edwards: http://blog.johnedwards.com/story/2007/2/26/235120/300). I think people are ready for a candidate who talks strait to them, who doesn't sugar coat everything and who lets them know when challenges will be hard - but worth it. In an age when distrust for politicians runs so high and cynicism is rampant, its time for a candidate who will level with the public and be honest about the challenges, and opportunities, ahead.
