Hey friends!
I’m sorry it has taken me so long to post about Step It Up! We had an AMAZING rally here in DC. Local council members, community and faith leaders all spoke, as well as, the presidents of the League of Conservation Voters (my big boss Gene Karpinski) and Friends of the Earth, Brent Blackwelder, and Dan Lashof, a climate scientist from the Natural Resources Defense Fund.
The best part had to be when all 1200 people helped create a human postcard in front of the Capitol. Spelling out 80% by 2050, the aerial shot turned out better than I ever could have imagined. We took it to the house, literally. Check it out!

Courtney, you did an awesome job on organizing this event! It was absolutely incredible. Your intelligence and passionate commitment to stopping global warming is exactly what we need to be successful.
XO XO XO
Possibly the most amazing thing about the DC SIU action was that youth and students organized the majority of the event. It actually all started with Congressional Photo Petition from the Week of Action. It then began to snowball as organizations and acronyms got involved but through out youth and students were behind the scenes making things happen. Even the attendees themselves were largely youthful and students from DC area schools.
The success of Step It Up! nationally and in DC proved many things including, and perhaps most importantly, that youth can and will lead the way to a just, stable climate future.
This photo is awesome! Just perfect.
Great work organizing this event.
