Quick NJ Climate March Update

A huge nor’easter was not enough to keep us from marching. The NJ Climate March began last Friday at Rutgers-New Brunswick and ended in Trenton by Monday. We engaged over 500 people at our rallies, reached out to over 10,000 vehicles on the streets and roads, chanted through more than 5 towns, generated more than 15 press hits (including the state’s top newspaper and NYC’s top news radio station), lobbied a republican senator to co-sponsor the GWRA bill (a minority leader), enlisted one more college (TCNJ) to the Presidents Climate Commitment, and built enough momentum to make sure that the Global Warming Response Act passes this summer. Check out this quick clip taken on Saturday.

With all this momentum, we are planning to work with more than 5 state organizations to kick off another rally at Trenton in late May, followed by a full Lobby Day to get the few co-sponsors we need to pass the bill. In addition, college and high school students may begin work to establish a strong statewide coalition to get all of NJ’s higher education to endorse the PCC and help pass strong state and federal legislation. Check out our website, www.njclimatemarch.org, for pictures and links to press hits. More pictures to come soon.
