Last Friday I had the opportunity to pay a visit to Elisa Young of Meigs County, Ohio. From her farm you can see four coal-fired power plants. AEP is planning to build five more coal plants within a ten mile radius. Added to that list for this community are proposals for two coal slurry impoundments, a coal-mining operation, a power line project, and possible proposals for a petroleum coke plant and an ethanol biorefinery. Nearly all these projects are upwind, upstream, and/or directly in the community. Watch this video to get a small glimpse into her story.
Elisa is opening up her barn and her home this summer to young people and citizens who want to help protect Meigs County and promote sustainable economic opportunities and environmental justice. If you are moved by her story, consider joining the fight with Energy Justice Summer. For more information about the issues in Meigs County go here.

Josh, thanks for posting this - video is such a useful tool for letting people know about the situation in Meigs. Elisa and I have exposed over 1,000 young people to this story face-to-face over the past six months, and I’m actually in Ohio visiting schools right now to spread the word. We’re also having a Step It Up action in Meigs County this Saturday.
Energy Justice Summer promises to be an amazing time. So glad you’re interested!
