RootsCamp: What’s next for the progressive movement?

Roots Camp

In the next couple weeks progressive activists from across the country will be meeting for election debriefs called ‘Roots Camps’. The model is one of decentralization and participation. Anyone can come, and everyone must participate in the planning and execution of the camp. The camps are organized ‘Wiki’ style on the Roots Camp website. You can join one that is in the planning or even start a whole new camp in your home town. Even if your not down for these roots camps the structure is a great model for pulling together grassroots activists on the cheap for effective collaboration. Here ’s how they describe it…

A RootsCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for activists, organizers, leaders and politicians to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. RootsCamp was initiated by the New Organizing Institute, and is a clone and continuation of BarCamp from the geek/technology world.

The next one starts Saturday (11/11) in San Francisco. If you’re in the Bay Area and had a hand in Tuesday’s landslide, come on by and help lay the groundwork to do it even better next time: http://rootscamp.org/RootsCampSF. If you prefer to do politics in the privacy of your own home, check out http://rootscamp.org/RootsCampSL — RootsCamp Second Life. — roz
