Youth group holds mock funerals to protest Ottawa’s climate change policy

TORONTO (CP) - Young people in 14 cities across Canada are holding funerals Wednesday - funerals for their future.

The newly formed Canadian Youth Climate Coalition organized the mock-funerals as a way to protest the federal government’s inaction on climate change.

In Toronto, a cardboard casket was led into Grange Park by pallbearers dressed in all black.

CYCC founding member Jeca Glor-Bell then delivered a eulogy on the death of Canada’s environment if meaningful action isn’t taken by Stephen Harper’s Conservative government.

Glor-Bell says young people are the ones who are going to grow up and live the rest of their lives with the consequences.

The nationwide protests were organized to coincide with tomorrow’s announcement by the government detailing the Clean Air Act, which has been criticized by many environmentalists for skirting the climate change issue.
